Meal in a Jar -- Cream of "Something" Soup

Cream of "Something" mix:
2 c THRIVE Non-fat Powdered Milk (non-instant)
1 c cornstarch
1/2 c THRIVE Powdered Sour Cream
1/2 c THRIVE Chicken bouillon (or any dry granules)
4 T THRIVE Freeze Dried Onions
1 T granulated garlic
1 T dry parsley
1 t dry thyme

Combine ingredients, mix thoroughly. Store in airtight jar or container or use in mixes below.

Using the mix you can create any cream of soup you can think up.  Add 2/3 cup mix to a pint jar then fill with any Freeze Dried vegetable (except peas).  Each pint jar will make 4 cups of soup.

Here are some examples:

2/3 cup dry mix with THRIVE Freeze Dried Broccoli -- cream of broccoli
2/3 cup dry mix with THRIVE Freeze Dried Mushrooms -- cream of mushroom
2/3 cup dry mix with THRIVE Freeze Dried Celery -- cream of celery
2/3 cup dry mix with THRIVE Freeze Dried Potato Dices -- cream of potato
2/3 cup dry mix with THRIVE Freeze Dried Diced Chicken -- cream of chicken
2/3 cup dry mix with 1/3 cup THRIVE Tomato Powder (in 1/2 pint jar) -- cream of tomato

Add oxygen absorber to each jar and seal, store in pantry 5-7 years. Mylar good for 3-5 years.

To prepare soup: Add contents of jar with 4 cups water, cook on low to desired consistency.

**or use 1/3 cup dry mix with 1 1/4 cup water for the equivalent of one can of condensed cream soup.

Add each ingredient (in order), shake the ingredients gently down into  the jar to make everything fit.

1 cup THRIVE Instant Red Beans
1/2 cup THRIVE Tomato Powder
1/3 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Corn
1/3 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Diced Carrots
1/3 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Peas
1 tsp thyme
1 tsp granulated garlic
1 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Diced Beef
1 T beef bullion
1 cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Diced Potatoes
1 T beef bullion
1/4 cup flour
¼ cup THRIVE Freeze Dried Onion (or as much as you can get in the jar.

Add oxygen absorber and seal jar.

To prepare Beef Stew:
Remover oxygen absorber.
Combine stew mix and 6 cups water in a dutch oven or large pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 20-25 minutes.

You can also store these in Mylar bags.  In a jar on your pantry shelf these meals can last 5-7 years.  In a Mylar bag on your pantry shelf they can last 3-5 years.  The advantage of using a Mylar bag is that you can make the meal as large or as small as you want.  This bag pictured on the right has extra potato dices and 1/4 cup of Thrive Freeze Dried Green Beans.

The jar recipe makes 10-12 1 cup servings.  Serve with biscuits and you have one of my families favorite meals!

Product of the Week - Tomato Powder

How to use, save money and save food storage space all at the same time with Tomato Powder!

For tomato sauce:  ½ cup tomato powder and 1 cup water
For tomato paste:  ½ cup tomato powder to ½ cup water
For tomato juice:   ½ cup tomato powder to 5 cups water

There is no salt in the tomato powder but in most prepared tomato products there is a lot, so make sure to taste and adjust your recipe accordingly.

One #10 can tomato powder makes 110.25 cups of tomato sauce (more if you like it thinner) equal to 63 15oz cans of store bought sauce.  Think of the space savings!

An unopened can of tomato powder will last 8 years on your pantry shelf, and one full year after it is opened! Try that with a can of sauce!
